Brake / Clutch / Fuel Lines
ABS and Proportioning valve
Most late donors come with ABS and it's a personal choice if you remove or keep it, most people remove it. You do not need to keep ABS to pass the IVA test even if the donor was fitted with it.
If you wish to remove the ABS system then you can remove all wiring along with the pump. You can then also modify the brake lines to suit. You will also need to replace your proportioning valve with that from a non-abs car and connect the brakes as per the diagram below. You will not need to modify the ECU etc. and can simply remove the ABS warning bulb from the original dash clocks if needed.
Here are some images showing the differences between the two master cylinders and systems.

The stock “proportioning valve” on ABS cars is simply a pass-through, it doesn't actually do any proportioning, hence the reason to swap this over. If you like, you can take the complete non-ABS setup including the master cylinder over if you wish and skip these steps. Below you can see the true proportioning valve. If converting from ABS to non-ABS using the original ABS master cylinder (2 output ports) using the non-ABS proportioning valve then you can simply use the port with an arrow facing towards the valve for the rear cylinder connection (closest to the firewall) and then the “F” port on the same side for the 2nd connection from the end of the brake cylinder. Then connect your rear brake line to the port with an arrow pointing away from the valve body and the front brake line to the “F” port. It is necessary to split this output to both front wheels as shown in Fig5 below.

Brake Lines
In the kit from MEV you will receive copper brake lines. However MEV (Freakyparts) also sell a full HEL braided line kit specifically for the Exocet (see parts used below), it comes with a clutch bypass hose which really tidies up the clutch line compared to stock. You can use 8mm P clips (rubber lined) to attach the brake lines to the frame as shown.
These need to be positioned to ensure that the hose does not come into contact with the tyres or wishbones during full suspension and steering travel
One common route for the brake and fuel lines is along the driver's side (UK) frame, this is to keep it away from the exhaust and prop shaft. You can alternatively use the PPF frame but please note this can be subject to movement so for hard lines it's not recommended.
Brake fluid level test
The IVA inspector will ensure that in the event of low fluid that the light on the dash illuminates. This will be connected via the handbrake switch as it was in the MX5. It then acts as a bulb/circuit test every time you apply the handbrake.
Fuel Lines
The fuel hose needs to have the necessary certifications in order to pass the IVA, ethanol is more and more common in fuel so it's a good idea to make sure it's compatible. You have an option to run copper lines with hose at the ends or a full braided hose.
In the photo above you can see the braided fuel line hose ran next to the brake line. This is the CBS hose linked below.
A few builders have used the original OEM fuel pipe connections from the donor, you simply cut way the original hose and it leaves a barbed fitting to connect to the tank or fuel rail.
The fuel pipe connections are very important to get right. Firstly the car will not run if they are inadvertently swapped and secondly if you do get them the wrong way around and then remove them you may get splashed with high-pressure fuel.
For return systems (Mk1 and Mk2) the pipe in the centre of the pump unit is the “feed” and this goes to the end of the fuel rail that is at the belt end of the block, not the firewall end where the FPR is. The other one is the return pipe. For returnless systems (MK2.5 in the UK) the pump has the same connections, however it is looped back at the tank side and the FPR is inside the tank. One single fuel pipe runs to the front via a fuel damper located near the engine.
