Exocet Build Guide

Radiator

The radiator is mounted on the front of the chassis. Aluminium brackets can be made by the builder for this purpose or purchased with the kit for the MK1 radiator.

The brackets need fixing to the frame and it's recommended to fit these as low as possible when using the G-type chassis, this helps bonnet clearance. It is also possible to install an aftermarket thicker alloy radiator designed for the Mk1. You may need some washers or spacers when adjusting the brackets. It is worth noting that if you are using a thicker radiator, you may need to trim the Mazda fan cowling down so that it can fit correctly between radiator and chassis; alternative aftermarket fans are an option and usually much thinner in design.

The Mk1 & Mk2 MX5 has an overflow not an expansion tank system. That means the tank is not pressurised and does not need to be located at the highest point in the cooling system. Many choose to bin the original large plastic tank for a much more compact alloy tank that is easier to locate in a busy engine bay.

You will not be keeping the heater matrix but you will need to loop the hoses together using a straight connector and hose clamps.
